Mental distress hounds university students, study finds

The Australian – MORE than 80 per cent of university students are struggling with psychological distress, a new study has found. University of Queensland researchers polled 6500 Australian uni students and found 83.9 per cent were mentally distressed, far outstripping the rate in the general population (29 per cent). The study also found rates of serious mental illness among those polled were more than five times higher than in the general population (19.2 per cent, compared with 3.0 per cent). Read article
