How to get the most out of Open Your Eyes News

Open Your Eyes News has been created with two key intentions in mind: To provide the big picture of world news 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; and also to be an easy to use repository of news articles for researchers in all fields.

In order to get the most out of the site, and its many thousands of articles here is a quick guide to help you navigate around:

• Welcome Page : Most readers first look at the site. Here the most recent articles we have published are show, in descending order, with the most recent post first. As we publish articles 24 hours a day it is also worth occasionally clicking on the link  Homepage — Refresh Frequently — Updated 24 hours a day in the top left hand corner of the page so to see any new articles that have been published since you first went to the site.

• Seven News Categories: All our articles are cross referenced into seven key news categories
  • Civil Liberties
  • Finance & Economics
  • Society – media, religion & education
  • War & Terror
  • Democracy & International Relations
  • Health & Science
  • Environment

To view just the articles specific to a category simply click on one of the links above, or click on the appropriate image at the top of the screen

• Sub-Categories: In additional every article is also further cross referenced into 70 further sub-categories, on specific tops as well as geographical region that the article is related to. Some of the most referenced of these include Climate, Quotations, The Nature Of Corporations, New World Order, Big Brother, Corruption, Pollution & Toxins, and Pharmaceuticals. Each of these archives contains many hundreds of mainstream news articles on the specific subject, and enables readers and researchers to gain a much broader perspective on a topic. The two ways to view any of the sub categories are:
  • The Research Archive - A swirling ball of category headings you can see half way down the page on the left hand side. Simply click on the appropriate word and the relevant articles will appear. To change the speed and direction of the ball swirl simply move your cursor over it.
  • Specific Articles: Click on a specific news headline and you will be taken to the page for that specific article. At the bottom of the article you will see the word “Tags:” followed by the tags (cross references) for that specific article. Simply click on the link. In addition this page also enables you to:

• Search Facility:  On the top left of the screen you will see a “Search For” section. Simply type in the word or words that you are looking for in inverted commas, for example “Vitamins” and all the articles that mention vitamins on the site will appear.

• Calendar: In addition all of our articles are cross referenced to date and can be searched for accordingly. The easiest ways to do this are:
  • Archives – on the bottom of the left hand column. Simply select the drop down menu and select the relevant month and year you are looking for articles from
  • Post Calendar: Just below Archives. Click on the specific day in that month and you will see a list of all the articles from that day appear.
