Our New Name – Join The Debate

In the next few months we shall be rolling out our new and improved website design. Before we do that however we have decided to change the name of Open Your Eyes News!
Why? The name came about originally 2 years ago, without much consideration when two of us were having a slow day at work. Though it has served us well to date it is not ideal for what we are trying to achieve.
The purpose of this publication is to provide the broadest coverage of world news available, 24/7, free from all commercial or political pressures. The current name implies a condescending attitude towards our audience, which is not our desire. Our purpose is to inform so that our readers can attain clarity of perception, and thus affect positive change in their world.
What have we come up with so far?
- Mi World News (Mi like mathematical Pi. It means clarity of perception, and of course sounds like My)
- OYE! News (”Oye” means “look here” in Spanish)
- Blue World News (we live on a largely blue planet after-all)
- Oy!
- UNews
What do you think? We would love to know your thoughts on these, or to hear your ideas as to a new name.

I think Open Your Eyes News it great….but if i were to choose one of the new ones it would be OYE! News. I didn’t know oye was ‘look here’ in Spanish. That is cool….considering its the abbreviation of open your eyes hehe
ok, well thats my two cents. Its a great site you have here, and i enjoy catching up with the ‘real’ news. Thanks for giving us the opportunity.
Take care and good luck with your name hunt.
Oy! (or Oi!) is a common call for attention across the English speaking world – that’s my halfpennyworth.

Hi.
How about ‘Free Media News’ Keep up the good work.
Who What When World.
I do like OYE! News though. It’s still recognisable and is more punchy.
Just OYE is a good choice (pron. OY-YEA, officially, or like ‘HOY’ unofficially).
‘Oyez’, pronounced as the first one above – see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyez – is the traditional court or town crier call, when court is going into session, or news is about to be announced.
WillCobbett’s comment is on the button.
Oy! or Oye is not appropraiate as far as I am concerned. The former sounds very common to an Englishman, rude even, but may be appropriate in our former colony. Oye is Spanish, who speaks that language? OK, a hell of a lot of people, but internet language is mainly english. Tell it as it is – Mi World News gets my vote.
Heya James & co.
I like Open Your Eyes News.. but if you insist.
Oye – noooo
Mi World News is Ok.
Take care!
OYE! is best. “Mi” would be pronounced “Mee” by most educated Americans (yes, there actually are a few of us), and would miss the point. I can’t speak for other English-reading populations. Cheers!
What about:
You What?!
I suggest to keep focussed on the personality types of the people you’re trying to reach. Those smart enough to find this site on their own aren’t likely offended by the name, but we are the minority & have already ‘awoken’ somewhat.
To truly effect the desired change OYEN needs to draw the vast majority who are still ‘asleep’ – those conditioned to believe that their 1 or 2 newspapers & the TV news tells them all the ‘truths’ they need to know.
Sure, lighten the ’stupid pill’ comment to not offend the soon-to-be large target audience, but by the same token, names that are too intellectually derived, while cool to those who ‘get it’, perhaps may just as readily put off the very people OYEN is trying to awaken.
In summary:
- OYE! & Mi – clever, but perhaps too much so for their own good.
- Oy! – carries a connotation of ‘rudeness’.
- Blue World News – implies a gloom & depression; rather people should feel the hope & empowerment that such mass change can bring.
- UNews – catchy, but is it about the individual, or the many? It implies division rather than people working cooperatively for change.
Personally I liked the old name – it was plain & simple & to the point – or at least a minor variant like Eyes Wide Open, or Open Eyes, News.
My 2c.
